CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL

Stars, Tween, Pre-Teen, Senior, Open & Elite

Primary School Grade 3 & above

A class for those who really love to show expression through dance. Lyrical based and dramatic routines are learnt. This class includes warm up, flexibility work, suspension, articulation, travelling, improvisation & fundamental technical combinations & floor work. 

​

Classes will focus on developing and enhancing skills and technique during Terms 1 & 2, then shift to learning a Contemporary and Lyrical routine for end of year concerts.

 

Alongside the Contemporary class, students are encouraged to be taking Ballet classes at UCANDANCE to assist students with the required technique.

​

Contemporary classes are not offered to Minis, Juniors & Petites. It is important that students have the technical training, strength and maturity behind them to participate safely and with correct technique. Our Minis, Petite and Stars Ballet & Tween classes do incorporate a Lyrical dance routine at concert, which give our younger students an opportunity to experience aspects of the contemporary genre and set students up on a strong path.

 

All students must be enrolled and currently attending classes in Ballet, Jazz or Level Up at UCANDANCE to be able to enrol / participate in Contemporary classes. This is because of the importance that ballet skills are jazz technique form the foundation to contemporary and are an ongoing necessity for safe, strong & progressive technique in this class.

Contemporary is a Mainstream class. Students perform 2 routines at the end of year concerts.
